2023 Around Aquidneck Island Challenge (Twenty Hundred Club)
Coldish, Wettish, & Definitely Fun
Sunday, 10/22/2023.
Weather forecast: 14 - 18 Knots from the West
Tide: High Tide at 2:30pm
NOR & SI’s Here: https://twentyhundredclub.org/race-page/
CREW: Buster, Wyatt, Troy, Robyn, Meredith, Norris & Jacob (aka "Bob").
APPROACH: Plan is to get to Sail Newport by 930. We'll launch the boat and go - we'll record our start time at the Newport Bridge. High tide is at 230pm. I'm thinking we'll head south, against the current to Brenton point then set the kite for The Sakonnett River, ride the tide up to the Tiverton basin. The Tiverton basin is not a part of the time, so depending on tide and time we may pause, eat lunch, then restart, get around Common fence point and ride the outgoing tide back to the Newport bridge. The longer we wait in the Tiverton basin the stronger the current going south.
RESULTS SO FAR (other boats can do the challenge until the end of the year):
Elapsed time for the challenge: 4:01:35 (corrected out to 3:37:35) - 57 minutes faster than the previous best spinn time in 2023 (Spirit - 4:34:53 corrected)
Just missed out on the all time record by 10 minutes. Again (Spirit - 3:27:49 corrected)
